Hilary Found A Good Man
Hilary Duff's expectations were low when her hockey player boyfriend, Mike Comrie, called recently to say he'd picked out an early 20th birthday present for her and that "I hope you like them."
"Okay, it's shoes or something," Duff recalled thinking as she went to her sister's house, where Comrie had said he left the present in the garage. "I opened the garage, and I was just like shocked, just standing there."
Before her, with a big red bow on top, was a Mercedes-Benz G-class SUV (retail price: more than $100,000).
Duff, whose birthday is next week, told PEOPLE at the Chanel and P.S. Arts Party at Chanel in Beverly Hills on Thursday that she had unwittingly put the idea for a new car in his head. Comrie, who plays for the New York Islanders, didn't know what to get her: then one day he heard her talking about her transportation needs.
"I was planning on getting a big car and I drive a big car anyway, and I was just like, 'You know maybe I like the G-Wagen,' and then I was like, 'No, maybe I like the [Porsche] Cayenne,' " says Duff, whose manager steered her away from the Porsche, reminding her that she was a "terrible driver" and "didn't need that kind of power."
"I've driven it tons," Duff said of her birthday present. "When I called him I was like, 'You're crazy! It's perfect!' "

Nicole Richie Takes Hilary Duff’s Leftovers
Nicole Richie and Good Charlotte singer Joel Madden cuddled over dinner at the Beverly Hills Hotel on December 3. "They seemed very comfortable together - it didn't look like a first date," says a witness. "He had his arms around her all night and was kissing her on her head, her cheek, even her forehead."
A friend of Joel's tells In Touch: "Everything is still very new, but he likes her!"
Another pal says Joel told Nicole's ex Adam "DJ AM" Goldstein that they were dating. Joel, who recently split with Hilary Duff, is friends with DJ AM and "doesn't want it to be awkward," says the insider. "Adam said it was cool, but he doesn't want see them together or anything."

Hilary And Joel Are Over
They have been through a lot together, from her first love to first stalkers, but Hilary Duff and Joel Madden have called it quits. Good Charlotte frontman, Madden was overheard telling fans that he is single, reports the Chicago Tribune's Red Eye.
The newspaper claims that Joel announced the break up during a DJ gig at a Chicago club called Enclave. States the Tribune, “Madden told clubgoers Duff broke up with him about ten days ago and that their eight-year age difference was causing problems.”
19-year-old Duff and 27-year-old Madden had been dating for a little over a year. The pair were reluctant to make their romance public at first due to the fact that Hilary was still a minor when they began seeing each other.
